Google Docs for Android updates with support for collaborative docs

Google recently snuck out an update for its Google Docs app for Android, adding support for live document collaboration.

This useful feature that’s baked into the vanilla desktop edition of Google Docs does what it says on the tin; it allows colleagues, friends and co-creators to collaborate on documents, articles and project briefs, or, in the case of Google’s own example, help a hapless Best Man write his speech.

As you can see in Google’s video below, this works across Android phones and tablets of all shapes and sizes. You’ll need to be running Android 2.1 Eclair or above (which according to the latest figures, is practically everyone) for Google Docs for Android to work.

Google Docs, for the uninitiated, is a great service that lets you create, edit and save documents to the cloud. It’s accessible through virtually any web browser, but so far there’s only been a dedicated app made available for the Android platform.

Google Docs for Android adds a ton of other neat features such as the ability to take pictures from within the app, access documents when offline and scan texts using optical character recognition.
