Google improves Now and adds new voice commands in latest Glass update

As promised, Google continues to update Glass Explorer Editions with new features ahead of an official consumer release. The Next Web reports that August’s XE8 update adds even more Google Now cards. Glass users can now search for movie information, as well as showtimes and local theatres.

Google Now will also alert Glass to upcoming restaurant or hotel bookings by searching your email for confirmations. In addition, Now will push out cards for emergency alerts, traffic conditions, weather reports, and sport updates, bringing the assistive feature more in line with smartphones and tablets.

The search company has expanded voice commands for Glass as well. Third party apps such as Path and Evernote can now tap into voice recognition. So if a Glass wearer says “Take a note”, then Evernote will automatically open and begin transcribing. Google says that even more services are on the way, but didn’t go into specifics.

Finally, Glass users will be able to control the video player using the capacitive sensor on the side of the headset. A single tap will play or pause a video, while swiping will fast forward or rewind to a specific point in the stream. Google will continue to push out updates to Glass each month, but there’s still no word on an official public release for the wearable unit.
