Google Nexus 6 ‘Shamu’ leaks in photo. It’s a Motorola phablet

If the lustre of your Google Nexus 5 has started to fade, good news! Leaked photos of a potential Nexus 6 have emerged.

Fans of Google’s Nexus brand have been holding their breath on two fronts, the long-rumoured Nexus 9 tablet (expected to be made by HTC) and a follow up to the LG-made Nexus 5 that arrived in late October last year. Now it would appear that ‘Shamu’ is under development.

The codename borrowed from the famed Sea World-bound killer whale is affixed to the back on an unnamed Motorola device in a photo that appeared on XDA-Developers earlier this week.

Based on the aesthetic cues used, it clearly borrows from Motorola’s current design language – most notably the new Moto X, but it’s significantly larger. The photo, which was uploaded by a user named Michael Sudol, shows the potential Nexus successor face down alongside an LG G3. The LG is known for having a 5.5-inch display whilst the unknown Motorola looks to be around the 6-inch (some speculate 5.92-inch) mark as a result of its larger size.

Aside from the bigger format it appears to feature consistent elements to the Moto X, such as a large Motorola logo underneath a rear-facing camera with a dual LED-based ring flash. The back plate is also curved with a metal border that forms the antenna design.

Specs-wise early rumours from XDA and other sources point to a 13-megapixel camera, a Snapdragon 801 or 805 quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 3200mAh battery and (like the G3) a Quad HD display (2560×1440).

Whilst no official event has yet been confirmed for the launch of such a device, we’re expecting Google to pull the wraps off the Nexus 6 in mid-October.
