Google has finally released a Play Music app for iOS. Google’s app will allow iPhone and iPad users to stream its All Access music service, but it won’t allow anyone to purchase music through the app. That’s probably in response to Apple’s policy of taking a 30% cut of in-app purchases.
Anyone without an All Access subscription can still use the app, though. Google will allow you to upload 20,000 songs to the cloud and stream them anywhere for free, not unlike Amazon’s Cloud Player. Apple, meanwhile, charges £21.99 for the same functionality with its Match service.
Just like Spotify, Rdio, and Pandora, Google’s music service can create custom radio stations too. Google likens it more to a playlist – one that’s fixed in place with the free service, but one that you can tweak if you decide to subscribe. The app is available to download right now, although you’ll have to pay its All Access service through the Play Music website rather than through the app.
