Google has consolidated Play Magazines and Currents into a single app called Newsstand

When was the last time you used Google Currents? Probably never. Google isn’t oblivious to the situation, which is why the company has scrapped the app in favour of a new effort dubbed Newsstand. Like Apple’s app, Newsstand will pull in subscriptions from newspaper and websites, but it displays current news and trends from various website across the internet as well, not unlike Flipboard.

Google says that any content downloaded through the app will be specifically formatted for phones and tablets, and any photos or videos embedded in articles will be carried across too. There’s a bookmark tool as well, plus offline reading access.

Newsstand will begin rolling out to Android over the next couple of weeks, although you may find that Google has already replaced the Play Magazines and Current apps on your device.
