Google has updated its Translate app for Android to now speak 14 languages, letting two people have a proper spoken conversation through Google’s digital Babel fish.
The app currently supports 63 languages with written translation, but its conversation mode is much more futuristic. Once the target language has been set, you simply speak into the phone’s mic and the app records your words, reassembles them in whichever language you’ve selected and speaks them out through the phone’s speaker.
Previously only three languages were available to use with this function: English, Japanese and Spanish. As of today, travellers will also have instant access to Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Russian and Turkish.
