Gorilla glass gets tougher at CES

The maker of super-tough Gorilla Glass technology, Corning, has announced that it is to release a new and enhanced version of its reinforced screen technology. Showcasing at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the new technology is sure to grace many the mobile screen for the new year.

Corning’s list of customers is impressive and most smartphones and tablets boast the companies original Gorilla Glass. The full spec of exactly how the glass will improve on its predecessor are yet to be revealed. But you can bet your bottom dollar it’ll toughen up our smartphones for those inevitable slips and spills in 2012.

Plus, we are sure that the companies all singing and dancing booth at CES will reveal more. Corning is alleged to be preparing a whopping 82-inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen, Gorilla Glass video wall and sleek new glass speakers for its CES stand, impressive stuff!

With the ever growing need to differentiate within the smartphone market, we’re sure that one wish from many smartphone manufacturers will be that this new technology will give them more design freedom.

James Steiner, general manager of Corning Speciality Materials, said: ‘Handset and tablet device manufacturers are clearly driving toward higher functionality from thinner designs. Corning’s latest innovation in Gorilla Glass technology is very well positioned to meet these challenges.’
