How to transfer music from PC, Mac or iTunes to your Sony Xperia Z2

Copying music from your PC, Mac or iTunes account to your new Xperia mobile phone might seem a daunting task, but we’ll show you how to tranfser your tunes using Sony’s software.

This guide was created using the Sony Xperia Z2, but should work for other Sony Xperia phones such as the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact too. We used Sony’s built-in software, but there are plenty of third-party apps out there that do the same job.

Transfer music from Mac to Sony Xperia Z2 phone

If you’re on a Mac computer, first you need to connect your Xperia Z2 via USB – this’ll prompt you to install the ‘Sony Bridge for Mac’ software. Once installed, this handy app allows you to quickly copy music to your phone from your Mac, or even from your iTunes account.

If your music is already sat there on your Mac, select the ‘Browse files on your Xperia device’ option in the Sony Bridge app. This pops up a window showing all of your Xperia Z2’s folders. All you need to do now is open another Finder window, browse to the music you wish to copy over, and then drag it onto your Xperia Z2’s music folder.

Transfer music from iTunes to Sony Xperia Z2 phone

To copy your tracks over from iTunes to your Sony Xperia Z2, you’ll need to install the Sony Bridge software as above. Load up the app, then select the ‘Browse iTunes’ option and you should see all of your media, organised into different categories.

Simply click ‘music’ in the left tab, then select the individual songs you wish to copy across by clicking the box beside each track. When you’re done, hit ‘sync’ in the bottom right, and your music will whizz right over. Alternatively, you can click the ‘playlists’ tab and copy over multiple songs quickly and easily.

If you don’t see your iTunes music appearing in Sony’s app, try making a playlist of all of your songs and checking again. That did the job for us.

Transfer music from PC to Sony Xperia Z2 phone

If you’re using a Windows PC instead, the process for copying music to your Sony Xperia phone is similar to Mac. Start by connecting via USB and installing Sony’s software when prompted.

When the initial installation’s done, the program will load up and give you an overview of the features. You can transfer all kinds of stuff like contacts, apps and media from your old phone, but for now we’re interested in the Media Go section for transferring music. Give it a click, and let it set up.

Once you’re in, check out the tabs on the left side of the screen. The ‘Sony Xperia Z2’ section shows you what music is already stashed on your phone, while the ‘Library’ bit lists all of the media on your PC. Click on ‘Music’ in the Library section, and you should see all of your tunes currently sat on the computer.

Just click on whatever you want to copy across, then hit ‘Add to’ down in the bottom right. Your music will be chucked onto your phone for you.
