How to watch Amazon Prime Instant Video on your Android tablet

Amazon has finally opened up its Prime Instant Video streaming service to owners of Android tablets, and here’s how to get it working.

Step one: Download the Amazon Appstore on your Android tablet

First, you need to (rather annoyingly) download Amazon’s Appstore app, which will then allow you to download the Amazon Instant Video app. This is because the Amazon Instant Video app isn’t on Google Play.

To download the Amazon Appstore, just head to Amazon’s Appstore webpage and tap ‘Download the Amazon App’. The APK file will then download onto your Android tablet. When this is done, pull down your notifications bar from the top of the screen and tap the notification that says the download is complete. Accept the terms and the Amazon app will be installed.

Note that you may need to authorise apps from unknown sources to proceed. You can do this in Settings > Security.

Step two: Download the Amazon Instant Video app

With that done, we can now download the Prime Instant Video app.

Open the Amazon Appstore by giving the icon a tap. You’ll be asked to sign in with your Amazon account, so do so. If Amazon Instant Video doesn’t start downloading automatically, you need to search for it and then select to install.

The app will now be downloaded, just like the Amazon Appstore app. You can once again check its progress in your tablet’s notifications bar.

When the notification changes to “Ready To Install’, tap the notification and you’ll be asked if you wish to install. Select yes and that’s job done.

Step three: Stream away

Open up the Amazon Instant Video app and you’ll then be taken to Amazon’s web page, which allows you to select the video you wish to stream.

Tap your chosen film and then ‘Watch Now’. You’ll be asked how you wish to open the video. Choose ‘Instant Video’ and your movie should begin to stream. Time to bust out the popcorn…
