HTC 10 vs LG G5: Specs and features compared
These phones are a similar size, both filling your hand and working best with two-handed use, while also boasting metallic bodies that are pleasingly rugged. Neither phone is waterproof, but they’ll certainly survive a fair few knocks and scrapes. They also pack the same Snapdragon 820 processor for smooth everyday performance and stutter-free gaming, while Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 allows them to power up in just over an hour.
However, beyond those few common traits, the HTC 10 and LG G5 really couldn’t be much more different.

For a start, while both phones run Google’s Android OS, the look and feel of the desktops and menus is very different.
HTC collaborated closely with Google to produce a slimmed-down, almost vanilla OS that isn’t bogged down with loads of features. There’s HTC’s Blinkfeed desktop for checking out the latest headlines and your social alerts, while the new Freestyle feature allows you to place app icons and widgets wherever you want on the screen; no grid-style constraints here. But beyond that, you get a simple, frill-free experience.
LG on the other hand has added loads of its own bits to Android for the G5, including desktop notes and migrate tools, as well as culling some stuff like the apps tray. Thankfully you can use LG’s software to revert back to a classic Android setup if you don’t like the new look and feel.
And while these phones are a similar size, they sport very different designs. The HTC 10 boasts a sexy unibody finish with a fingerprint sensor housed beneath the screen, along with touch buttons. Meanwhile the LG G5 has no front-facing buttons, choosing on-screen variants instead, while the power button/fingerprint sensor is housed around the back.
Not only that, but you can pop the bottom of the G5 out and slide the battery free, as well as snapping on one of LG’s ‘Friends’ attachments to expand its functionality. At the moment the Friends selection is very limited, but we’re hoping to see many more emerge in 2016. By comparison, the HTC 10’s battery is locked away inside and there’s no way to expand the hardware.
The final major difference between these phones concerns the camera tech. The HTC 10 sports a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and 5-megapixel front-facer, while the LG G5 bumps up the specs to a 16-meg rear and 8-meg front-facing camera. Even more impressive is the G5’s secondary rear lens, an 8-megapixel wide-angle snapper that can capture incredible vistas and group shots. You can switch between the two with a tap of an on-screen button, giving you a lot of flexibility.
