HTC’s Desire 300 has just been announced alongside the higher-end Desire 601. As the successor to the HTC Desire C, the Desire 300 promises a significantly lower price-point, while still managing to cram in a 4.3-inch WVGA display and some solid specs across the board, not to mention HTC’s notoriously high quality design.
Off the bat, the most striking thing about the Desire 300 is the display – 4.3-inches and WVGA resolution is a very respectable size for an entry level class of device, and a huge bump up from last year’s 3.5-inch HTC Desire C. The phone’s design is strikingly similar to that of the Desire 601, suggesting that HTC doesn’t intend on deviating too far off a set design for their Desire range.
Measuring in at 131.78mm tall, 66.23mm wide and 10.12mm thick, the Desire 300 looks set to be a manageable, albeit sufficient bit of kit, and weighing 120g, shouldn’t add too much extra weight to a pocket or bag.
Probably the weakest point of the phone from glancing over the spec-sheet is its internal memory. Clocking in at a paltry 4GB, you will almost certainly need a microSD card for your movies, music and photos.
On the subject of photos, the 5-megapixel rear facing camera is loaded up with an f/2.8 lens. It’s capable of WVGA video as well, though going by the render, there doesn’t appear to be a flash, so our low-light expectations are curbed.
Internals also include a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1GHz, as well as 512MB RAM, not to mention 2G and 3G connectivity, the latter up to 7.2Mbps. Rounding off with a 1650mAh battery, the HTC Desire 300 looks like an all-in-all solid entry level offering, provided the price is right.
Expected to land later this month, we can expect a release date and pricing at IFA 2013 in the coming week.
