Here’s our exclusive first-look pictures of the Desire S, the latest phone in HTC’s Desire family.
Looking reliably familiar, the Desire S has dropped the optical trackpad on the front, and there’s a new aluminium styling that runs through most of HTC’s new announcements.
Leap mode, a mainstay feature of HTC’s Sense UI, that allows you to easily hop from one homescreen to another. As you’d expect it works a treat on the Desire S. You perform a quick pinch to zoom motion on the screen, or simply tap the Home key to activate leap mode. Then you just tap whichever homescreen you want to jump to.
The camera app of the HTC Desire S in action. As soon as we fired it up, the face detection software started working straight away, picking out random faces in the crowd. The little switch icon in the bottom left flips between the main 5-megapixel camera and the front-facing VGA camera.
The camera app features a self portrait mode when the front-facing camera is engaged. This could be the end of passport photo booths across the country (maybe).

And one more back shot, from the other side. It’s hard to get a feel for the phone with a massive great security tag stuck to the back. But we hope that these shots give you an idea of what the Desire S looks like in the flesh.
