HTC dominates UK Android Market

More than half of the Android phones (50.9%) used in the UK are made by HTC, according to the latest ComScore data, with the Taiwanese company a massive 29% ahead of rivals Samsung who are languishing in second place with 21.6%

ComScore’s MobiLens research from the UK, Italy, Germany, France and Spain provides an insight into the UK market share enjoyed by major handset manufacturers.

Statistics show that Sony Ericsson takes a strong third place on 14.2% – over double that LG (3.5%) and Motorola (2.1%) combined.

The ComScore data also shows that 19.7 million people in Europe were using Android (as of July 2011), with the greatest amount of users based in the UK, standing at 6.3 million. This equates to the number of HTC handsets in the UK standing at 3.2 million, with Samsung at around 1.3 million; leaving Motorola with only 132,000.

It is not all doom and gloom for Samsung though as the figures in Europe tell a very different story. The Korean company actually lead the way in Germany, France, Spain and Italy, which should give HTC something to think about.
