HTC First could be the long-awaited Facebook phone

Notorious Twitter leakster @evleaks posted a render last night of what could be the much rumored Facebook phone, the HTC First. The handset looks to have a relatively barebones design with slightly different icons for the three standard Android capacitive buttons. While the first render showed an all black phone, subsequent images suggest that HTC and Facebook may offer the phone in a range of colors.

Specifications for the device were revealed by Android Police a few days ago thanks to a leak of Facebook’s pre-release software for the phone. Specs reportedly include a 4.3-inch screen with a 720p resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a five megapixel camera. The handset will run Android 4.1.2 as well as Sense 4.5 and Facebook’s custom home screen app, dubbed “Facebook Home”.

In an interesting twist, it doesn’t look like Facebook Home will be an HTC exclusive option for long. Android Police notes that the home screen app has permission to read settings for not just HTC’s launcher, but also TouchWiz as well as the stock Android launcher, suggesting that Facebook may just be planning to release the app in the Play Store to target as many devices as possible.

Facebook’s home screen app will apparently be front and centre on this new device, with no sign of HTC’s standard home screen app at all, so clearly the social network is hoping to target those who live and breathe Facebook. The company is hosting an event on Thursday that will show off all the details of Facebook Home – we’ll bring you all the details as they’re revealed.
