We caught wind of the HTC Golf a couple of months back. Since then, pickings have been slim surrounding HTC’s new low-end smartphone, but now photos have appeared and a new name.
Following on from a leaked press image the team at ITProPortal have been sent two photos containing what appears to be a rather complete looking HTC Golf. Of course ‘Golf’ is just a codename, by the time this device launches, the source who leaked the photos claims it will bear the Desire name instead, in the form of the HTC Desire C.
The HTC Desire C will take its place as a new entry-level device from HTC, slotting in under the lowest tier One Series device, the HTC One V. The Desire C is rumoured to possess a 3.2-inch to 3.5-inch (480×320 resolution) screen, an 800MHz or 1GHz processor, a 3-megapixel camera and of course will come running Android Ice Cream Sandwich, with a lightweight version of HTC Sense 4.0 running on top, similar to that of the HTC One V.
Interestingly enough, this looks to be the first device which will replace the Wildfire naming convention for low-end HTC devices. The Desire name originally appeared on the HTC Desire, (HTC’s 2010 flagship, which was twinned to the Google Nexus One) and each consecutive year has been used for the next tier down, being succeeded by the Sensation name in 2011 and now the One Series in 2012.
There’s no notable launch date on anyone’s lips as of yet, but for those who’ve set their sights on a low end HTC with ICS, your best bet will be a summer launch.
