HTC launching up to 8 new handsets

HTC is planning to launch a range of new mobile phones in Q3.HTC’s chairman Peter, the company’s Chou confirmed 6-8 new handsets will be released later this year in a bid to increase the company’s market share.

This follows HTC released its Q2 Results that it sold 12.1 millon units in Q2 2011, which is an increase of 124% since 2010 and higher than the company expected. In Q3 HTC is expecting to ship 13.5 milllion units – 98% more than 2010, so to hit these forecasts it makes sense for the company to release new models.

Interestingly the average smartphone selling price dropped to $349 from $364 at the end of 2010.

Chou also indicated that HTC didn’t have any plans to launch low-priced models and would focus on the middle to high-end segment.

Today a report by Canalys came out saying that the company had seen an increase in its smartphone sales
of 165.9% since Q2 2010, making it the fifth biggest phone manufacturer in terms of market share.

HTC refused to comment officially on the new handsets. Although we’re expecting a couple of Windows Phone 7 Mango releases. Could it possibly be a new version of the HTC Desire Z or HTC Desire HD? Both of which are slightly older now.
