Some sneaky snapshots of HTC’s soon-to-be-announced One M9 have leaked online, showing the upcoming device in its entirety ahead of its official MWC launch, and it looks like HTC hasn’t taken any risks with design.
The photos don’t give away much about the One M9’s tech, but it does give us a clear view of the flagship device’s aesthetics and the minimal tweakage that HTC has made compared to the One M8‘s design.
So it looks like the 5-inch form factor of the M8 is still in favour, although it seems that HTC has given a little more attention to ergonomics, with some love shown to people with smaller hands.
The power button – which was formerly on the top of the device – has been moved around on to the side, while the volume rocker has been moved down a touch too, to allow folks who don’t have hands like Gordon Banks to access it much more easily.
As for what lurks beneath the surface, we’re still unsure, but rumours indicate an octa-core processor like the Snapdragon 810, plus 3GB RAM. We’re also expecting a Full HD 1080p display, but it’d be a shame if HTC doesn’t upgrade to a Quad HD panel, like rivals such as the LG G3 and Samsung’s Galaxy S6 (reportedly).
Judging by the back of the device, the M8’s Duo Camera has been swapped out for a more conventional, single 20.7-megapixel camera (likely using the same Sony sensor enjoyed by the Xperia Z3), that also means HTC UltraPixel technology won’t make an appearance like it did in its two previous flagships.
Other gossip claims the new device will launch with a fingerprint scanner, similar to those seen in the Samsung Galaxy S5 and, of course, Apple’s iPhone range. The One M9 will come with Android 5.0 Lollipop though, of that we’re quite sure, and it will very likely pack the next iteration of HTC’s Sense UI, version 7.0.
Rumours also point to a 2,840mAh battery, which hopefully will give well over a day of battery life like earlier HTC flagships.
HTC is expected to launch the One M9 on March 1st at the huge Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, so we haven’t got long to wait to see if all the rumours are corroborated.
