HTC One wins Global Mobile Award for Best New Mobile Handset at MWC 2013

Although we were lucky enough to attend the London launch party for the company’s new HTC One flagship Android smartphone, it wasn’t until the HTC pitched up at Mobile World Congress that the majority of the industry could get up close and personal with the new handset.

At launch we were impressed with the wealth of new features HTC had spent time squeezing into the One; like its 4.3-UltraPixel camera, Full HD 4.7-inch display, quad-core processor and HTC Sense 5 overlay, but it would appear we were not alone. The GSM Association who host the biggest mobile events of the year including Mobile World Congress awarded the HTC One the title of ‘Best New Mobile Handset at MWC 2013’.

In recent years, HTC have lost some of the momentum and popularity their handsets garnered to the likes of leading rival Samsung, but with the One being one of the newest standout devices on the show floor, it’s proved enough to at least grab the industry recognition it deserves, but whether consumers will grant it the same success remains to be seen.

On receiving the award, HTC’s CMO – Benjamin Ho said, “We are delighted by the reactions from both consumers and the industry to the new HTC One. It is a device that has been years in the making and is one of which we are incredibly proud.

Both Benjamin and Graham Wheeler – HTC’s Director of Commercialisation Product Management accepted the award in Barcelona ahead of the One’s anticipated release in the market later this month.
