HTC Sensation death grip: HTC says “There isn’t one”

We’ve been in contact with HTC following reports from website Nordic Hardware, who have allegedly discovered that its flagship phone, the Sensation, suffered from signal failure when held in a specific way.

When asked if they had noticed any sort of death grip on the new phone, the smartphone giant told Recombu: ““No. Every phone experiences a slight variation in signal strength when the antenna is covered in its entirety by a palm or fingers.

“However under normal circumstances this does not affect the performance of the phone.”

The rumoured death grip reportedly affects not only phone reception but also Bluetooth and WiFi.

The iPhone 4 suffered a rare PR misfire when a death grip was spotted on the phone soon after launch. They soon decided to issue ‘bumper’ covers for affected customers which boosted the signal.

HTC has reported record growth this last year, and has more than doubled its sales between May 2010 and May 2011.

It has already released a handful of new phones, including updated version of hit handsets like the Desire and Wildfire.

HTC’s two FaceBook-centric phones have also recently arrived in the shops, and we’ll be bringing our reviews for both of these soon.
