HTC smartphones not to come with Beats headphones in the future?

HTC made a big hoo-haa on its collaboration with headphones giant Beats Electronics and has been bundling up its devices with a pair of these headphones for a while now. But don’t expect this trend to follow for upcoming HTC devices, as reports CNET, HTC has shelved the idea for now and seems to have learnt the hard way that awesome headphones don’t sell the device to us consumers …

“An accessory like the headphone doesn’t factor in when someone is buying a smartphone,” Martin Fichter, an HTC product executive, commented. “If they want a Beats headphone, they’ll buy it directly.”

HTC has a majority stake (51%) in Beats Electronics, spending around $300 million, and so has a vested interest in the company doing well, but it seems giving them away with its smartphones didn’t work out. HTC’s focus on the music capabilities of its devices is not necessarily a bad way to stand-out from the crowd, lets hope that’s the case for its latest One series anyway.

The HTC representative also commented that the technology behind the headphones will still be incorporated into future devices, including the onboard speakers and the quality of the sound emitted to the headphones.
