HTC Wildfire S announced: 5-megapixel camera, 3.2-inch screen, not called Wildfire 2

Along with the Desire S, HTC has announced the Wildfire S, the sequel to the successful HTC Wildfire. The HTC Wildfire S is aimed at the mid-range market like the phone it succeeds, and runs on Android 2.4 Gingerbread, like its Desire S stablemate.

The Wildfire S has a 3.2-inch touchscreen that has a HVGA resolution – double that of the original Wildfire’s screen and an 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash.

It’s small and compact and it even looks a bit like the old Wildfire, the most obvious difference being the lack of a trackpad. It looks as though that the leaked shot we saw a couple of days back was genuine; it certainly looks a lot like the phone that’s been announced today.

The Wildfire S will come in a range of coloured jackets, including, we imagine, black, puce and white. It will be available in the late summer; release dates don’t come any more exact at the moment but we’ll keep you posted as and when that changes.
