Huawei’s first Windows Phone 8 handset leaks? 4.5-inch screen and LTE

Images have appeared depicting what appears to be a premium Huawei Windows Phone 8 handset on a Chinese blog.

At Microsoft’s preliminary announcement, when plans to create Windows Phone 8 were first publicly aired, a myriad of hardware partners had already signed up to produce devices running the new mobile OS. Despite the fact that we’ve already seen offerings from Nokia, Samsung and HTC the other players have remained quiet, although that fact looks to change with the arrival of Huawei’s first WP8 handset.

The shots seen here featured on Chinese blog Winp.cn and following from what they decribed as a ‘Huawei Surface Phone’ concept, this handset has been named as the the Huawei Ascend W2. The W2 appears to be the Chinese manufacturer’s premium Windows Phone 8 handset. Based on the images, the device has a 4.3 or 4.5-inch display and a satin finish metal body on both the back and the sides of the device.

The camera on the back is an 8-megapixel snapper with 1080p HD video recording and a front-facing camera can also be seen to the right of the earpiece. Aside from the fact it’s running Windows Phone 8, the display also shares possible information on a handset called the Huawei Ascend W3 and in the top right an ‘LTE’ icon can be seen, confirming that this handset will likely offer 4G in some markets.

We don’t know if this handset is going to be making its way to the likes of the US and the UK as the brand doesn’t have as strong a foothold just yet, but standing out as a Windows Phone 8 device might be a smart move, even if the only other competitors are all more well-established names in the mobile space.
