UPDATED: Chinese electronics giant Huawei has officially announced the first 7-inch Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet, the Huawei MediaPad.
The tablet was announced at the CommunicAsia conference in Singapore, and is the first to include the latest incarnation of Honeycomb – version 3.2 – and it certainly includes some tasty specifications.
Weighing 390g and 10.5mm deep, it’s lighter than the HTC Flyer and Blackberry Playbook, although a smidgen thicker than the latter. The 7-inch screen includes IPS technology, which produces superior viewing angles and better contrast than conventional LCD.
Powered by a Qualcomm dual-core 1.2Ghz processor, with HSDPA at 14.4Mbps and integrated WiFi. There’s also a primary 5-megapixel camera and front-facing 3-megapixel camera with playback via the HDMI port.
Flash is pre-installed, as are Facebook, Twitter, Documents to go and Let’s Golf and the quoted battery life is six hours. The tablet also includes is Huawei’s Hispace cloud storage solution.

The Huawei MediaPad is the follow-up to the IDEOS S7 Slim tablet, an Android 2.2 7-inch tablet that hasn’t yet made it to the UK. According to Engadget the MediaPad is due for release in the US in Q3, but there’s no news on when – or if – it will make it to the UK yet.
Huawei has confirmed the tablet will be coming to the UK by the end of the year, but there’s no news on pricing yet.
