Ice Cream Sandwich update availability: When is it coming to my Android phone and tablet

Vodafone have just informed us that one of our favourite budget droids, the Huawei G 300 is now able to make the jump to Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Jelly Bean might be the newest version of Android, but many handsets haven’t yet had the upgrade to Android 4.0 – or Ice Cream Sandwich.

We’ll keep this page up to date with software updates when we hear from the manufacturers, as we’ve done with our Gingerbread pages and our Jelly Bean page.

Samsung

Samsung Galaxy Nexus – comes with Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. Obviously.

Samsung Galaxy S2 – Ice Cream Sandwich update has rolled out.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 – Ice Cream Sandwich has been available since early August.

Samsung Galaxy Note – Ice Cream Sandwich confirmed, no ETA yet.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 – Ice Cream Sandwich confirmed, no ETA yet.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 – Ice Cream Sandwich confirmed, no ETA yet.

HTC

HTC has announced that the Sensation, Sensation XE and Sensation XL and the Evo 3D in the UK will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich. We’ve kinda jumped the gun a bit ourselves by installing an ICS ROM on our Sensation – check that out here.

Here’s the updated list of when ICS will land:

HTC Sensation – confirmed to be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, ETA late May – June 2012.

HTC Sensation XE – confirmed to be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, ETA late May – June 2012.

HTC Sensation XL – confirmed to be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, ETA late May – June 2012.

HTC Evo 3D – confirmed to be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, ETA June – July 2012.

HTC Flyer – HTC has confirmed it will not be getting Ice Cream Sandwich.

HTC Rhyme – confirmed to be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, ETA June – July 2012.

HTC Incredible S – confirmed to be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, ETA June – July 2012.

Motorola

Motorola RAZR – Ice Cream Sandwich has been available since mid-August.

Motorola RAZR MAXX – Ice Cream Sandwich has been available since mid-August.

The update is available OTA (check our post on downloading updates here if you don’t know how to check) and it brings a number of new ICS-related features, such as Face Unlock, ‘slide-to-dismiss’ notifications, unlock screen shortcuts, faster web browsing, data usage warnings, voice input and bug fixes galore. Let us know what you think of it once you’re rocking an ICS powered RAZR.

Motorola XOOM 2 – Ice Cream Sandwich confirmed; ETA Q3 2012.

Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition – Ice Cream Sandwich confirmed; ETA Q3 2012.

Motorola XOOM – Ice Cream Sandwich has been available since early August.

UK and European Wi-Fi-only XOOMs should get Ice Cream Sandwich in Q2 2012, with 3G and Wi-Fi XOOMs getting it a little later (ETA Q3).

Motorola Atrix – Ice Cream Sandwich confirmed; ETA Q3 2012.

Motorola DEFY – will remain on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Motorola DEFY+ – will remain on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Motorola DEFY Mini – will remain on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Sony Ericsson/Sony

Sony also revealed that their 2011 Xperia handsets, even if they’re already running ICS, will be receiving a new batch of ICS-based updates 4.0.4, said to contain bug fixes, performance tweaks and other improvements. This secondary ICS update rollout should grace the Xperia Arc, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo, Xperia Neo V, Xperia Mini, Xperia Pro, Xperia Active and Xperia Ray from this week and the Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Neo L and Live with Walkman soon after.

Sony Xperia S – Ice Cream Sandwich has been available since the end of June.

Sony Xperia P – Ice Cream Sandwich has been available since mid-August.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S – Ice Cream Sandwich has been available since the end of May.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc – Ice Cream Sandwich has been available since the end of May.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray – Ice Cream Sandwich has been available since the end of May.

LG

First off LG had announced that the LG Optimus 2X wouldn’t be getting Ice Cream Sandwich at all. Cue drama.

Then we heard that, actually, the 2X is getting Ice Cream Sandwich after all, along with the LG Optimus 3D and Optimus Black.  LG has publicly stated that it will upgrade “as many LG smartphones as possible,” with rollouts beginning in the second quarter of 2012.

The Optimus 2X and Prada 3.0 will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich first; the Optimus 3D and Optimus Black will see updates rolling out in the third quarter. Nothing more concrete date-wise than this yet.

Archos

Archos has already announced that its G9 series of tablets is due to get Ice Cream Sandwich.
Time-wise we’ve heard nothing more exact than the ‘first week of Feburary 2012’ for when the updates will drop.

We’ve seen video evidence of this in action on the G9 101 and had some quick hands-on time as well; it’s looking promising. Exact dates here and elsewhere as and when we hear of them.

Asus

Asus has already begun rolling out Android 4.0 updates to buyers of its new Transformer Prime tablet-laptop hybrid.

So as soon as you get your Prime and you’ve set it all up the update ought to land pretty much right away.

Buyers of the original Transformer aren’t to be left out in the cold though; Asus has confirmed via it’s Facebook page that it’ll be coming to punters in the UK.

Update: Asus has announced that it expects Ice Cream Sandwich to be ready for the Transformer Prime (TF101)  by the end of February.

Huawei  

Huawei’s ultra-skinny Ascend P1 S and P1 phones are both in line to get Ice Cream Sandwich when the arrive.

Ditto the new line of Huawei MediaPads; original versions of the 7-inch tab that shipped with Android 3.2 Honeycomb will also get upgraded to Android 4.0 “by the first quarter of 2012” – exact timings on this as and when the updates land.
