iPhone 13: All the latest news and rumours about Apple’s next flagship phone

The next iPhone is expected to come out relatively soon, so here’s everything you need to know about it in advance of its arrival.

The launch of a new iPhone is pretty much the biggest event on the calendar every year as far as smartphones are concerned, and the iPhone 13 is no exception to that rule. Fans can’t wait to see the newest addition to the line-up make its arrival, and so to satiate your anticipation we’ve collected everything we know so far into this article.

When is the iPhone 13 coming out?

The iPhone 13 is likely to be unveiled in September or October 2021. There’s been no official launch date given, but the launch pattern is fairly well-established by now so we can be very confident with this rough schedule.

The most exact estimate to emerge so far comes courtesy of TechRadar, which predicts a likely launch date of September 14, with pre-orders available from September 17, and then a release date of September 24. Don’t mark it in your calendar just yet, but it’s as good an idea as we have right now.

How much will the iPhone 13 cost?

We’ve got no insider information yet as to the price of the next iPhone, but it’s likely to cost a similar amount to as predecessor, the iPhone 12, which cost £699/$699 upon its release.

Of course, that’s the lowest-spec model in the range; the iPhone 12 Pro Max cost considerably more, at £1,099 ($1,099) and we once again expect there to be an equivalent to that giant specs monster among the clutch of iPhone 13 models.

iPhone 13 Design

Apple is habitually tight-lipped about its upcoming devices, so we’ll get no prior information from the company before the event kicks off. However, even the most seaworthy ship can spring a few leaks, so we’ve collected some of the most intriguing and reliable of these whisperings below.

First and foremost, it seems that Apple has finally shrunk down the notch at the top of the screen, as fans have been begging for even since the iPhone X arrived on the scene. This will give the display more space, and allow it to display more notification symbols.

On top of that, another much-requested alteration is set to arrive on the iPhone 13: a slimmed-down camera notch, so that the device will be more svelte and less bulky in your pocket while the snapper is likely to be fine-tuned once more for an even better photographic performance.

According to this tweet purporting to show dummy models, the camera lenses may be arranged differently too, while the Pro Max variant is apparently even larger than before.

iPhone 13 Specifications

It might be less bulky in respect of the camera module, but apparently the iPhone 13 could also grow a tad heavier. Before you get too mad, it’s all for a good cause; the range is apparently due to receive a significant battery upgrade, according to MacRumors. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote:

“The new 2H21 iPhone models feature a larger battery capacity than the iPhone 12 series, thanks to the space-saving design of many components. Hence, the new 2H21 iPhone models are also slightly heavier than the iPhone 12. The space-saving design includes integrating the SIM card slot with the mainboard, reducing the front optical modules’ thickness, etc.”

Continuing on the theme of internal upgrades, we will of course expect a healthy upgrade to the muscular A14 Bionic chip for even more processing power.

iPhone 13 Camera

We’ve mentioned it’s supposedly shrinking camera module, but the ultrawide lens is rumoured to be wider than ever before for an improved lowlight performance on the iPhone 13.

MacRumors reports, based on an investor note composed by Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Thomas O’Malley, that the range could boast an ultrawide lens with an f/1.8 aperture rather than the f/2.4 spec found on all iPhone 12 models.
