iPhone 6s and 6s Plus: In a nutshell

Apple is set to launch its new 2015 iPhone line-up, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, at a big Cupertino event on September 9th. But what do we think we know about the new iPhones so far? Here’s our super-quick Apple rumour round-up.

Same looks, but new colour and super-strength

While the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will look just like the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the new handsets will come in a fresh new colour – Rose Gold, to match the Apple Watch.

Apple has also apparently reinforced some weak spots in the iPhone’s frame to prevent more ‘bendgate‘ ridiculousness, and perhaps used a tougher alloy too.

Force Touch screen is pressure sensitive

Apple’s keeping the 4.7 and 5.5-inch screens from last year’s iPhone models, but now they’ll have the Apple Watch’s Force Touch tech. That means they’re seriously pressure sensitive, offering greater control by working out how hard you’re pressing on the display. Hopefully the Force Touch screens will be backed up with some excellent features and shortcuts that make full use of the tech.

DSLR-killing camera

Back in April, we heard that Apple’s new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus (then rumoured to be the iPhone 7) would pack an insanely good rear camera. Given Apple’s purchase of LinX, known for developing tiny camera modules, that seems a reasonable bet – and fresh rumours point to a 12-megapixel snapper that can shoot 4k video.

Other iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus specs

Leaks point to an all-new Apple A9 processor and 2GB of RAM, providing slick performance. The Touch ID fingerprint sensor will be updated to make it even faster and more reliable.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will hit UK stores on Friday September 18th.

So, students with rich parents, make a note of that date and be sure to camp outside your nearest Apple store a good three or four days in advance. If nothing else, it gives the rest of us something to laugh at on the way to work.
