In a continuation of their commitment to granting the majority of their 2012 handsets with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, Sony have now started the release of the update for the Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia Go.
Both the upper mid-range device and the popular tough phone will receive updates which will likely have to be downloaded by Sony’s PC Companion software. Android Central state that these updates should hit users from Saturday and will take place in stages, eventually reaching all devices hopefully before the end of May.
Just as with the update to the likes of the Xperia T, new features contained in 4.1.2 include the new Walkman, Album and Movies apps as well as the extremely useful STAMINA battery mode, which on the current Xperia Z flagship is quoted as extended battery life by up to four times. More traditional features of Jelly Bean appear too, such as Google Now search assistance.
Next on the rollout list is said to be the 2012 debut flagship; the Sony Xperia S.

Sony Xperia T – Jelly Bean 4.1.2 rolled out from February 2013. Feb 4th 2013: According to Xperia Blog users in the Netherlands are said to be in the process of downloading the new Android OS version. What the update brings to the table over the Xperia T’s ICS experience isn’t exactly clear, but once we get ahold of the update, we’ll see if its purpose is to narrow the gap between the Xperia T and the new Xperia Z.
ZTE
As with fellow Chinese manufacturer Huawei, ZTE are pushing their brand in a new direction in markets like the UK’s. By approaching consumers with lower-end hardware and more affordable pricing, upgradability might be limited, but not out of the question with the current handset portfolio.
