Latest Xperia Play advert features Kristen Schaal playing with herself

Yes, really. One of the latest adverts for Sony Ericssons’ Xperia Play stars Kristen Schaal (aka Mel from Flight of the Conchords) playing an FPS game with a clone of herself.

The video trumpets the advantages of the Xperia Play’s slide out controls for playing first person shooters, as your thumbs don’t get in the way of the screen allowing you to “see the b*stard you’re shooting at.”

The five adverts are refreshingly irreverent, poking fun at the typical uses of smartphones such as doing business stuff, watching YouTube videos and and looking at cat pictures. They usually end with Kristen whipping out the gaming pad and indulging in some high octane action.

It’s refreshing to hear mild swearing and phrases like “I’m stabbing her in the boob,” during a phone advert. You won’t be getting this in any Apple TV ads, that’s for sure.

There are also a couple of slightly disturbing ones featuring Satanic Panic-style backmasking and one where Schaal’s face is superimposed on top of a crossbow-wielding midget. Almost as disturbing as the previous body horror thumb harvesting ads (but not quite).

We’d take Kristen Schaal over a thumbless Hatebreed fan any day.
