LG Cookie Series: “My first touchscreen” for teens on a budget

LG has confused us to Timbuktu and back with today’s launch of the Cookie Series, a first touchphone series for ‘Generation Z’.

Why the confusion? LG already has a few handsets for teens known as Cookies – remember the LG Cookie Fresh? The LG Cookie? What’s more, the same handsets surfaced earlier today under the name LG Wink (cue many hilarious ‘winker’ based jokes). Finally, specs aren’t exactly forthcoming.

Here’s what we do know. The range is aimed at teenagers and anyone looking for their first touchscreen handset. It will consist of three handsets, each of which will have a touchscreen (probably resistive, to keep costs low), a 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio, microSD slot and, of course, the obligatory social networking shortcuts.

The LG Cookie (left), not to be confused with the LG Cookie, will be a 2.4-inch touchscreen handset which fits in the palm of your hands and slips easily into your pocket.

The LG Cookie Style (centre) has a larger screen, a 2.8-inch LCD display and will be available in a number of jaunty colours with mix-and-match casings.

The LG Cookie 3G (right) will have a faster data connection (3G, presumably) and push email features.

There’s no word on pricing yet, but expect it to be the lower-end of the spectrum to compete with Samsung’s Genio range. The LG Cookie series should hit the shelves in September.
