LG has tried a few times to crack the tablet market, but the company never seemed to produce anything that people wanted to buy in the wake on the iPad and Nexus 7. The South Korean company is taking another stab at tablets, though, announcing the G Pad 8.3 over the weekend. And all things considered, it actually looks pretty decent.
The design looks like a larger version of the company’s flagship handset for 2013, the G2. The back of the tablet doesn’t look to be smooth and glossy plastic like on LG’s smartphone, however, with what looks to be a nicer brushed metal effect instead.
LG seems to be focused on usability too. The company says that 8.3-inches should be just about right to hold in one hand without sacrificing too much in the way of screen real estate or portability. And LG hasn’t skimped on the display either, including a IPS panel with a 1920×1200 resolution. Other specifications include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 4,600mAh battery.
And the G Pad won’t be a standalone device either. LG says that the tablet can be paired with the G2 using its QPair app, allowing information to be shared between the two gadgets. Phone calls and messages can be handled on the tablet, as can notes. The feature won’t be restricted to the LG G2 either: the company says that any Android device running Jelly Bean can take advantage of QPair.
Unfortunately, pricing or exact availability details weren’t provided by LG, but the company did say that the tablet should launch sometime in Q4.
