LG G4 leaks with surprise specs and stylus

The upcoming LG G4 has put in a couple of cameo appearances ahead of its grand reveal on April 28, and along with an unexpected processor, this slick new flagship could also rock a stylus pen.

A sneaky snap of the new LG G4 handset has popped up on popular modding community XDA Developers, showing its rear panel alongside someone grasping a slim stylus. Assuming this isn’t someone’s idea of a hilarious joke, the leaked shot appears to confirm the rumour that LG’s next flagship will launch with a pen to keep users productive on the move.

Not satisfied with simply flashing itself at the paparazzo, the LG G4 also seems to have fetched up on popular benchmarking service GFXBench, revealing some very interesting snippets of information on the new smartphone.

The device is listed as the LG G4 (F500x) and shown to have a 2560×1440 5.5-inch screen (just like the LG G3 before it), 3GB RAM and Android 5.1 Lollipop. You’ll also get a 15-megapixel rear and 7-megapixel front camera, which should hopefully snap gorgeous pics just like its predecessor.

Interestingly, the specs also reveal that the LG G4 is powered by a Snapdragon 808 SoC and not the expected Snapdragon 810 – leading us to think that maybe LG opted to swerve Qualcomm’s latest and greatest offering owing to its reported thermal issues, despite packing the 810 into the G Flex 2. Some web-based rumours suggested that the 810 in the G Flex 2 was put on a leash, to prevent the overheating issues. For the new flagship, we’re not surprised that LG isn’t taking any chances.

LG has already sent out invites for the device’s upcoming launch event, which will take place on April 28th in London, New York, Paris, Seoul, Istanbul and Singapore. We’ll be attending the London event to bring you full hands-on action with the follow-up to our favourite phone of 2014.

The G4 launch invite, which shows a piece of stitched leather embossed with the words “See The Great” and “Feel The Great” (featuring the company’s trademark upper case ‘G’), begun reaching media outlets today – and the inclusion of leather on the mail-out, when the device’s leaked photos have had nary a pig’s hair to be seen, has prompted a little bit of curiosity.

Perhaps LG is planning to roll out not one but two devices on April 28 – the LG G4 and the company’s promised phablet, the G4 Note. If so, it would certainly explain the incongruous stylus in the leaks.
