LG gets sporty with new Tone Active Bluetooth earphones

LG’s slowly spinning its Bluetooth headset line into a sub-brand that’s silently taking over the market and the newest member, the Tone Active gets sporty.

The Tone Ultra, Tone Infinim and most recently Tone Pro Bluetooth earphones have signalled LG’s intentions to push its way into the wireless headset space alongside rivals like Samsung, Jabra and even Beats. LG’s latest offering is a little more specialist; borrowing elements from a number of other Tone headsets in the family to produce a fitness-centric pair of wireless buds in the form of the Tone Active.

As is often the case with sport-focused electronics the Tone Active is sweat and water-resistant (IPX3) and adorned with touches of fluorescent colour (lime, orange, blue or pink accents). Unlike some of the other Tone products however, LG has designed the whole unit to form a tighter, more rigid loop around the wearer’s neck so that it doesn’t flail around or slide off during a particularly vigorous workout.

To top things off, the Tone Active will boast retractable cords like you’d find on the premium Tone Infinim earphones, ensuring there are no trailing wires around moving gym equipment and what LG’s calling quad-layer speaker technology; for improved audio output for both music and voice calls.

We don’t yet have a price for the LG Tone Active earphones, but they launch first in the US and Korea, with Europe following later in the year.
