LG GT540: Android in a Viewty-esque casing

Marketed as “the ideal smartphone for first-time smart phone users”, the LG GT540 is stylish phone that reminds us of the LG Viewty. It comes in a range of hues and shades including white, grey, pink and black and boasts chrome-effect edges, curved ends and textured battery covers.

According to Pocket-Lint, the LG GT540 features a 3-megapixel snapper and memory expandable up to 32GB of memory via microSD.

The GT540 runs on Android 2.0 (aka Eclair) and comes with all the usual Google accoutrements (Maps, Market, Gmail, YouTube and Search). We think that the GT540 stands a good chance of doing for Android what the Cookie did for low cost touchscreens.

We don’t know how much the GT540 will cost yet but LG says that it will arrive in the UK in April. We assume it will be available for free on a monthly contract and on pay-as-you-go at some point.
