Google Nexus 4: Virgin Media join UK carriers with free handset-based tariffs

The LG-made Google Nexus 4 might have broken cover in 2012, but it’s still very much making waves in 2013. Google have more than struggled at meeting demand, with the ‘SOLD OUT’ sign seemingly permanently glued to the Nexus 4 sales pages on the company’s own website.

Elsewhere the latest stock Google smartphone can be had, off-contract for a significantly larger price tag with the likes of Carphone Warehouse offering the pricier options for those who airing on desperation. The latest carrier to join the fray, might ease some of the monetary strain with some competitively priced tariffs alongside a free handset on some 24 month plans.

LG Nexus 4 at Carphone Warehouse

This newest Nexus smartphone still maintains its position as one of the only handsets to tote Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, alongside the Google-branded Nexus 10 tablet. In addition to its OS, the appeal of the handset beyond the fact it runs stock Android, is found in its incredibly powerful underlying hardware, headed up by a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset.

Starter £31 (24 month) – There’s 500 texts, 200 minutes and 500MB of mobile data, as well as a free handset.

Essential £36 (24 month) – This plan includes unlimited texts, 600 minutes, 1GB of data and a free handset.

Premiere 08 £44 (24 month) – This plan offers unlimited texts and data alongside 2500 any-network minutes, unlimited minutes to landlines and 500 minutes to 0800, 0845, 0870 and 0808 numbers. In addition the handset is free.

On & On (24 month plan) – For £26 a month paired with an upfront handset cost of £299.99, users get unlimited calls and texts, 1GB of mobile data and the ability to upgrade the handset one month early.

On & On (24 month plan) – For £36 a month, users get unlimited calls and texts, 1GB of mobile data and the ability to upgrade the handset one month early. There’s also no initial handset cost.

£41 a month (24 month plan) – Users get 900 minutes, unlimited texts, 1GB of mobile data and the ability to upgrade the handset three months early. There’s also no initial handset cost.

SIM-free – Carphone Warehouse have the Nexus 4 available off contract for £389.95

Vodafone (24 months) – For £33 a month, users get 600 minutes, unlimited texts, 500MB of mobile data, access to 2GB of data over BT Openzone WiFi hotspots and a free handset.

Three (24 months) – For £37 a month, users get 1000 minutes, 5000 texts, unlimited mobile data and a free handset.

The One Plan (24 month) – For around £35 a month, users will be able to get around 2000 minutes, 5000 Three-to-Three minutes, 5000 texts and unlimited data, following an upfront handset cost of £29.
