LG Optimus 2X: Dual-core Android on its way

Eager to be the first to officially reveal a dual-core handset, LG has pulled the curtain back on the Optimus 2X.

The smartphone is rocking a Tegra 2 chipset with a 1GHz dual-core processor so we’re expecting the LG Optimus 2X to bring with it high speed action and graphics to make our jaws drop.

Because of this heavy-weight processing power, the Optimus 2X will be capable of 1080p (full HD) video playback – and with HDMI mirroring you won’t be confined to your 4in WVGA screen if you have a larger display handy.

All this and only 8GB of internal memory – but never fear, it’s not Windows Phone 7 so you’ll be able to add up to 32GB via the microSD slot. Photographers may be vaguely interested to hear that there’s an 8-megapixel camera on board too.

We’re looking at a release some time in 2011 for Europe – no word on which quarter yet – with the LG Optimus 2X initially shipping with Android 2.2 (Froyo). We expect LG will be working its socks off to get the 2.3 (Gingerbread) update out as soon as possible though.
