LG Optimus GT540: Another budget Android phone

LG France was probably hoping no one would notice them slip a little photoshoot of the rumoured LG GT540 up in all the iPhone drama yesteraday. Unlucky for them – eagle-eyed phone site UnwiredView.com spotted the post before it was taken down, and nabbed the shots and some more details to boot.

Packing Android 2.1 and looking not actually that bad, the handset comes complete with 3-inch screen, 3-megapixel camera and 3.5mm headphone connection. Unfortunately that 3-inch screen is a resistive touchscreen and there’s no physical Qwerty like the one on LG GW620 InTouch Max, which we quite liked.

The LG Optimus GT540 is rocking HSDPA (super-fast 3G) as well as Wi-Fi so web browsing and app loading times should be impatience-friendly. It comes in a range of colours, and by range we mean four -black, grey, white and pink. There’s no word yet of a release date for the UK, but the handset is Europe-bound so we’d expect to see more information in the next few weeks.

By far the most exciting thing about the handset is the trade name it’s been bestowed – the LG Optimus. If only it had some kind of Autobot element so that it transformed into a gun-wielding Decepticon-fighter. Now that’d be a great USP, right LG?
