LG’s 2012 mid-range Androids – the L Series, proved pretty popular following their launch early last year. Having amassed an impressive 15 million sales between the L3, L5, L7 and L9, their popularity has resulted in a wave of successors to continue their names.
The LG Optimus L5 2 sits squarely in the middle of the pack, with lightly uprated hardware over its predecessor but a significantly more up to date operating system and UI, in the form of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and the latest iteration of LG’s own Optimus UI.
Before we get to the phone however, we have its box, which like the L3, features the distinctive L-Series font denoting the model in both silver and a lime green which matches up with the phone’s LED notifications home button on the front image.
Aside from this, the box highlights key features such as its Android OS, 4-inch display, processor, camera and battery, meaning all that’s left to do is to open it up.
The first thing you’re presented with is the L5 2 itself. Wrapped in plastic and complete with screen protector, the handset feels extremely light and sliding it out of its packaging, its apparent that plastic is the main material of choice throughout the phone’s design.
Underneath the phone’s seating is another packet complete with a quick-start guide and other individually packed components consisting of a UK plus to USB adapter, USB to microUSB for charging and headphones will call controls.
The remaining piece of the kit is an individually wrapped 1700mAh battery which slots in under the removable faux brush metal backing of the L5 2. Popping it into the phone’s back and powering it on, that unsettlingly light design endures, even with the added weight. The back cover also conceals the phone’s NFC plate as well as a microSD slot for cards up to 32GB and a standard sized SIM card slot.
