The LG Optimus Pad will be their first entry into the Android tablet market, with a similarly specced, but differently named, T-Mobile G Slate doing the business in the US.
The Optimus Pad carries an 8.9-inch touchscreen, with a 1280×768 WXGA resolution, that’s full HD ready. It’ll be running on the designed-for-tablet Android 3.0, and like its Optimus 3D brother, there’ll be a dual–core processor, a 1GHz Tegra 2.
This is currently the only tablet we’ve seen that’s able to record in 3D, but sadly the tablet won’t get the Optimus 3D’s impressive glasses-free display to show off your 3D videos. You will be able to connect it to a through HDMI to a 3D TV or share them on the web through YouTube 3D.
No specifics yet on internal storage, but fingers crossed that’ll be expandable- HD video takes up a lot of space, and we imagine 3D video could take up even more.
We like the look those dual back-facing cameras (no specs on how many megapixels just yet) though the tablet will require 3D glasses to view. The Optimus Pad will also be video-chat friendly through a third, front-facing camera.
Loaded with the brand-spanking new Android Honeycomb (3.0 ) Honeycomb promises to bring a true tablet experience to Android, with plenty of navigational tweaks and optimisations to all that Google goodness, including 3D rotational Google Maps, Google Chat. (We expect this will include videochat.)
LG say they’ll be shipping to “local markets” in March 2011, and are hoping the 3D magic will be unique enough to make the Optimus Pad stand out from an ever-crowded tablet market.
