Looks like LG’s preparing something of a fightback; the LG Optimus Vu, outed in a YouTube clip, is reportedly an Android phone with a big 5-inch screen and a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor.
The short, 30-second YouTube video shows that the screen has a 4:3 aspect display ratio as well but is otherwise a little short on the details. The Verge has information that points to there being an 8-megapixel camera, 8GB of internal storage space and 1GB of RAM. So far, so respectable. That 5-inch screen is said to feature IPS technology and a resolution of 1024×768, so were expecting great viewing angles and high levels of detail.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread is also the OS of choice it seems, instead of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. At this stage in the game we can’t imagine why LG would want to launch such a solid-sounding bit of hardware with yesterday’s software.
The four buttons down at the bottom would suggest Gingerbread with a view to a quick upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. Presence of four exterior controls shouldn’t automatically suggest that Android 4.0 isn’t present though. And, given the history, we reckon no ICS from launch could be a dealbreaker for some.
Given that the video features Korean subtitles there’s also no immediate indication we’ll get this in the UK but fingers crossed for a surprise reveal at Mobile World Congress eh?
