LG Pop GD510: £100 a Pop on pay as you go

We’re resisting the temptation to make a terrible ‘Sunny Delight’ pun here. According to LG, the Pop GD510 is the smallest 3-inch touchscreen phone available (97.8 x 49.5 x 11.2mm) and yet it manages to cram a 3-megapixel camera as well as 8GB of memory into its teeny frame.

The LG PCB-100 solar panel (sold separately) clips on to the back of the Pop in place of the battery cover and charges the phone when you’re out and about.

Ten minutes of charging under the sun apparently gives you 2.15 minutes of talk time, so you can top up your battery whilst you top up your tan. Seeing as it’s November here in the UK and we’ve already had our allotted three days of sunshine for the year, we don’t think that the solar panel is going to see much action until next summer. We really like the idea though.

The Pop is available to buy from Carphone Warehouse for £99.95 on PAYG, and is also available on contract with O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone. The T-Mobile 18-month contract gives you 100 minutes and 100 texts for £15 a month.

There appears to be no price yet for the LG PCB-100 solar panel, but we can confirm that it will be sold separately and does not come included with the LG Pop. More information on the LG Pop and the PCB-100 can be found here.
