LG Q6 launches: Specs, UK price and release date

LG rocked the mobile world with its FullVision 18:9 display in the flagship G6 smartphone and now its ported that defining feature, more or less, into the new Q6.

The LG Q6 takes some of the best bits from the G6 and mixes them with more affordable parts to create a handset that should be within reach of more people’s budgets. But make no mistake this is still a seriously top-end bit of kit with three spec variants for Q6α, Q6 and Q6+. Interested? Read on to find out everything you need to know about the LG Q6 family.

LG Q6: UK price and release date

LG has announced that the Q6 will be coming to the UK soon. The South Korean company will launch the Q6 in Asia first, this August, with a release date for the UK to follow.

Pricing has not been announced at the time of publishing but expect it to be cheaper than the LG G6 which is £649.

LG Q6: FullVision screen and build

The LG Q6 features a familiar 5.5-inch IPS LCD FullVision display like the mighty G6, meaning you get to enjoy that distinctive 18:9 aspect ratio. It also means a super high-resolution display of 2160×1080 for 442ppi. So far, so eye-watering, but what about HDR?

Unlike the G6 it looks like the Q6 won’t support HDR standards or content. There’s no mention of contrast and colour boosting as you’d find on the fully-powered version of the display found on the G6.

The Q6 build is impressive with an aerospace grade 7000 series aluminium frame and very minimal bezels. Rounded edges should help ensure that you won’t get a cracked screen if you drop it either. The whole phone is also built with one-handed use in mind, thanks to that screen ratio and the finish of the handset’s edges.

LG Q6: Cameras and battery

The camera setup on the LG Q6 appears well-rounded albeit far more conventional compared to the G6 with a 13-megapixel unit using a standard FoV lens setup, whilst on the front is a 5-megapixel wide-angle selfie snapper that also doubles as the unlocking security system thanks to facial recognition. Collectively not quite the dual cameras of the G6 but good enough to get the job done.

The battery is a respectable 3,000mAh embedded unit which should mean a good day of use and then some on a single charge. It’s not USB-C so it won’t be as fast as the G6 to charge, unfortunately.

LG Q6: Hardware and software power

Running the show inside the Q6 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor backed with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage. In the case of the Q6+ you get 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, whilst in the Q6α there’s 2GB onboard with (just) 16GB of space.

The LG Q6 comes with LTE connectivity, Android 7.1.1 Nougat and LG’s UX 6.0, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and WiFi b/g/n. All that in a metal body that weighs 149g.

The LG Q6 comes in Astro Black, Ice Platinum, Mystic White and Terra Gold. The LG Q6+ comes in Astro Black, Ice Platinum and Marine Blue. The LG Q6α comes in Astro Black, Ice Platinum and Terra Gold.
