LG’s BB-8-aping laser-packing Rolling Bot is your cat’s new best friend

By far the best thing to be announced by LG at Mobile World Congress is the Rolling Bot – at least as far as your cat is concerned.

This bastard offspring of Sphero’s BB-8 toy and a NestCam comes with an 8-megapixel IP camera included. You can patch in to a live feed on your LG G5 and as well a piloting the thing around your home from the same app.

This means you can check up on and play with and speak to your pets when you’re out of the house as well as keep an eye out for any intruders. The built-in IR blaster means you’ll also be able to do things like turn your TV, but to be honest, that’s not the best trick the Rolling Bot’s got up its sleeve.

Did we mention that comes equipped with a laser pointer? In case you hadn’t got the memo, cats probably love lasers more than touching fishies or getting high on pounds of catnip

For the moment, it’s unclear if LG will let the Rolling Bot work with any other phones on the market. We can understand why it’ll want to keep the great majority of devices from the LG Friends range LG exclusive, but we think that even if the LG G5 sells in the hundreds of millions there’s still going to be far more people with cats than there are people buying an LG G5.

Cat stuff is serious business. LG would be wise to roll this Bot out to a wider market. More on this including price and release date information as and when we get it.
