LG Spectrum: Hands-on pictures and video

LG’s big mobile launch for CES, the Spectrum hasn’t had a confirmed a UK or Europe release, and with that big LTE radio blazing away at its heart, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever see this exact model getting the go ahead. That won’t stop us having a go with it and see what we’re missing out on. When in Vegas…

As you’ve no doubt already heard, the LG Spectrum comes with a huge 4.5-inch screen that’s not only bigger than the iPhone 4 and 4S’s Retina Display 3.5-inchers, but really packs in the pixels too.

The IPS display has a resolution of 1280 x 720 (720p) and a PPI of 329 – above that of the Retina Display’s 326.

We’ll be darned if our eyes can actually tell the difference between 329 and 326 at a glance, but its safe to say that as well as pipping the current iPhone’s screens in the size stakes, the LG Spectrum surpasses them in detail as well.

Other features of the LG Spectrum include an 8-megapixel camera that can record HD video at 1080p. The Spectrum’s screen also offers accurate colour reproduction and video playback in a 16:9 aspect ratio, guaranteeing that your videos will look vivid and lifelike.

The HDMI connection up top means you can wow your mates with your high definition stills and video on your big TV as well.

A 1.5GHz dual-core CPU powers everything under the hood and as you’ll eventually see in the video below, juggles high definition video while making the mundane tasks, swiping left and right on homescreens quicksilver smooth.

The built-in ESPN Score Centre app offers some pretty superb video playback as well, but again makes us sad that we probably won’t see this phone in the UK. Our fingers, toes and everything else is crossed for a GSM version. Until then, do have an ogle at our hands of pics of the LG Spectrum, LG’s display stand and our hands-on video.
