LG Stylus 2 UK unboxing and hands-on review

Our LG Stylus 2 unboxing and hands-on review takes a closer look at LG’s 5.7-inch Galaxy Note rival, a £250 phablet with modest specs for a more affordable price. Here’s our early thoughts and don’t miss our full Stylus 2 review.

The LG Stylus 2 is about to hit the UK and this massive mobile is very much a cut-price rival to the Samsung Galaxy Note phones, such as the upcoming Galaxy Note 6 (or 7, if recent renaming rumours are on the money). At 5.7-inches it’s a biggie, but LG’s stylus pen, which is secreted in a hole around the back of the Stylus 2, justifies that large display. This is a phone that’s aimed at creative users or anyone who demands stylus precision in their mobile apps.

Design-wise, the LG Stylus 2 is a slender and surprisingly light phone that’s basically a bigger version of the LG K8 budget mobile. The power buttons are once again housed on the back, along with the volume buttons, making them nice and easy to find with your fingertips.

That 5.7-inch screen sports a basic 720p resolution but it’s a step above the LG K4 and LG K8 displays, with decent viewing angles and a strong top brightness. The panel responds well to the slim and light stylus pen, with LG’s ‘Pen Pop’ menu appearing on screen as soon as you slide the pen free. This gives you quick access to the Stylus 2’s creative and note-taking apps such as QuickMemo.

A Snapdragon 410 processor powers the Stylus 2, which is surprising; this is old tech now and we can already see that LG’s UX interface (plastered on top of Android Marshmallow) isn’t the smoothest around. Still, we’re hoping that the phone will prove itself reliable over time and play the latest games well.

Rounding off the Stylus 2’s features is a 13-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front-facing snapper. Check out our complete Stylus 2 review and here’s our unboxing and first-look Stylus 2 review video.
