LG’s Optimus 2X announced at CES, packed with Tegra 2 goodness

Thought your smartphone was suitably smart? In 2011, you’re no one if your phone isn’t a Super Phone (according to NVIDIA).

NVIDIA took to the stage at CES today to announce the world’s first Super Phone, in the form of LG’s Optimus 2X. More super than previous phones, the focus is on true, real, actual multitasking with none of that nasty lag, admirable coping with Adobe’s Flash across the web, and a gaming experience to rival your favourite console, all thanks to the use of NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor.

In the words of LG’s spokesperson, the Optimus 2X is a “beauty on the outside, a monster on the inside”. How so? Thanks to the inclusion of an HDMI connector, it seems the real benefit of this phone might be the ability to play Angry Birds on your HD TV. Wowsers.

There’s also an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a 1.3mp camera on the front, 1080p video recording and playback, and whilst it’ll ship with Android 2.2 (Froyo) it will be upgradable to 2.3 (Gingerbread). And with the Tegra 2 processor, you’re promised excellent battery life whilst you take advantage of all that lovely processing power.

If that’s got you gagging to dump your non-super phone you’ll have to hold your horses, as there’s yet to be a release date. Alternatively, you could move to Korea, where it’ll be available next month.
