Limited Edition OnePlus 5T Sandstone White Unboxing and Photo Gallery

It’s become customary for OnePlus to release additional colourways of its smartphones after their initial launch and the company is ringing in the new year with a limited edition Sandstone White variant of its latest blower, the OnePlus 5T.

Eagle-eyed OnePlus plans will likely already be aware of the Star Wars special edition OnePlus 5T which the company unveiled alongside Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s December release in theatres at the tail end of 2017. Strip the Star Wars wallpapers, themed UI and in-box holographic easter egg off and you’ve basically got the new Sandstone White variant.

To achieve this new finish, OnePlus’ engineers applied a primer to the metal body, then a white masking layer which is essentially the colour layer, followed by a sandblasting treatment which featured a mix of minerals and white oil paint, all finishing in a UV top layer. All that fiddling with the finish means this version of the 5T is the priciest handset OnePlus has ever produced.

The phone sports the latest release of the company’s own Oxygen OS (version 4.7.4) running atop Android 7.1.1 Nougat with the update to Oreo currently in testing.

Unlike the Soft Gold OnePlus 5, which followed on from the original phone’s launch, this new white 5T boasts the same storage and memory as the top-tier Midnight Black version; with 128GB of non-expandable storage and 8GB of RAM to support that ever-popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 at its heart.

OnePlus hasn’t confirmed how many units of this Sandstone White variant of the 5T it’s made but the ‘limited edition’ status implies that once stocks are gone, they’ll be gone for good.

Whilst OnePlus announced the phone on January 4th, it isn’t going on sale until January 9th at 10 a.m. in the UK. The phone will cost the same as the 128GB Midnight Black 5T at £499 and will also be available across Europe and the US for €559 and $559 respectively.
