iPhone users are set to receive further armament in the fight against would-be data thieves, courtesy of anti-virus stalwarts and general web-sheriffs McAfee.
Called ‘WaveSecure’, McAfee protection comes to iOS – as you might expect – in app form, and protects the data on a user’s phone in the event of its being lost or pinched. The app lets users remotely back up data and contacts lists, restore them to another device, and even track the position of any ne’er-do-wells brazen enough to make off with the protected phone via GPS. For police use, mind. Not your own bloody retribution.
“We are excited to extend our platform coverage to one of the most popular operating systems for mobile devices on the market.” said McAfee co-president Todd Gebhart. “Consumers use their mobile devices to hold some of the most important details of their life… even if users accidentally delete their data, the data remains safe and easily accessible.” We’ve all been there.
McAfee’s WaveSecure is available in the App Store now, priced at £13.99.
