Flagship Lumia 940XL phone leaks with seriously impressive specs

The new Microsoft Lumia 940XL has leaked and the device is fairly brimming with top-flight specs, including a Quad HD screen and some exciting camera tech.

We’re already massively excited for Microsoft’s latest flagship phone, the Lumia 940XL, which is the latest victim of the dreaded internet leak factory. But if the rumours are true, the Lumia 940XL will easily be the mightiest Windows Phone/Windows 10 device around and a true rival to the biggest Androids like the Galaxy S6 and LG G4.

The slim new Lumia 940XL, constructed from a metal unibody chassis, will sport a sizeable 5.7-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. That matches the best alternatives out there, which also rock Quad HD displays.

Microsoft has plugged in a SnapDragon 810 processor and 3GB RAM, rather than the 4GB we were initially expecting. The Lumia 940XL will also offer up 32GB of storage as well as a micro SD slot, so you shouldn’t have to worry about filling up your storage space. Let’s just hope that Snapdragon stays cool, so we don’t have to report any troublesome overheating issues.

The Lumia 940XL’s primary camera is set to be a 20-megapixel PureView effort, while the secondary will be a 5-megapixel selfie snapper. We’re expecting the main camera to be one of the better mobile shooters around given Nokia and Microsoft’s imaging chops and a short pulse, variable-tone LED flash should help massively with low light photography.

This fresh leak also (somewhat tentatively) mentions that the device will boast an Iris scanner which, if true, would make it the first of its kind to focus on biometrics for security.

As you’d expect, the Lumia 940XL will run Windows 10 on its release, and it will also be compatible with Microsoft’s Continuum feature. Continuum, which we reported on recently, will allow you to pair a wireless keyboard and mouse with your phone and hook it up to a monitor, to use it as a desktop computer (of sorts).

We’re also expecting a slightly dinkier Lumia 940 to emerge with all of the same feature, except a more compact 5.2-inch display and Snapdragon 808 processor, which should please folks who aren’t aroused at the site of a whopping great screen on a ‘pocketable’ gadget.
