Microsoft has finally named its new web browser, previously nicknamed Project Spartan – say hi to Microsoft Edge. Here are some of the best new features we already know about.
Internet Explorer has been taken out behind the virtual barn by Microsoft, to be replaced in Windows 10 by the new ‘Microsoft Edge’ browser. The new name was announced at Microsoft’s Build 2015 conference, replacing the Project Spartan codename that we’ve grown to know over the past few months.
Microsoft Edge is an all-new web browser, which collects all of your bits into a single ‘Hub’ – that includes your bookmarks, pages you’ve marked to read later, files you’ve downloaded and so on.
You can also doodle direct on websites with the new ‘Web Note’ feature, which allows you to make notes on any page and then share it with the world.
But best of all, the Cortana voice assistant is now an integral part of Microsoft Edge, allowing you to find pages that interest you with a quick voice search, or find out more information about something you discover online. But be careful if you’re browsing, ahem, adult materials, as she’s always watching you and always judging.
Microsoft Edge will be a key feature of Windows 10 when it lands later in 2015.
