An update to Android Wear has apparently boosted the Motorola Moto 360’s dire battery life, although it’s still not quite an all-dayer.
The main complaint chucked at Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch is its poor battery life, which is usually completely sapped before even half a day has passed. Well, many Moto 360 users have reported the battery now lasts around 13 hours after a recent update, which is a marked improvement on its previous 10-hour maximum when using ambient mode.
The update was actually for the Android Wear OS rather than the Moto 360 itself, meaning that hopefully other Android Wear-toting devices will enjoy a similar battery boost as the behind-the-scenes mechanisms become more efficient.
Although seemingly just a bug removal upgrade, the update has fixed issues with laggy Google Now cards and users are reporting the transition between them are now a lot more fluid and the cards themselves more responsive.
General behavior and the UI seem unchanged, but that’s no bad thing because the Moto 360 only launched a little while ago and we’re still getting accustomed.
The official changelog reports changes as:
- Bluetooth connectivity – Improved Bluetooth connectivity between the watch and phone to reduce momentary disconnects experienced by some users
- Charging notification – Added a message to confirm that Moto 360 is charging in cases when its battery is fully depleted
- Bug fixes – implemented bug fixes and other system optimizations
The update has started rolling out automatically to users, but if you haven’t already received it, hold tight – it’s coming in the next few days.
